WCSD Proposed Reopening Plan

July 30, 2020

Dear Warsaw Central School Families,

Together, we are approaching a school year that will look and feel very different than any other we have experienced. We know from experience that COVID-19 conditions will continue to evolve and that the guidance we must follow from state and federal health authorities will also evolve.

These unprecedented circumstances have required us to reimagine transportation, food service, traditional schedules, teaching and learning, and think very differently about how we can support a safe and successful school year for all members of our School District community.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to develop three different state-required models for the reopening of schools in September.

  1.   In Person Model: Instruction that takes place with students in attendance at the school building.
  2.   Hybrid (blended) Model: A combination of in person and remote learning
  3.   Remote Model: Instruction that takes place outside of the school building while the students are not in attendance at the school.

We have been working with our District Reopening Committee which has included Administrators, Director of Facilities, Transportation Personnel, Food Service Director, Teachers, Support Staff, Law Enforcement, Health Care Workers, Students, Parents and Grandparents. Our goal is to reopen fully and safely.

We have a fundamental responsibility to resume teaching and learning throughout the school year for all students, and we are fully committed to doing so with equity, safety, science and the many needs of our stakeholders guiding our decision making. The plan should allow us to adjust quickly as the public health landscape continues to evolve both before and after school starts. The New York State Education Reopening Plan is our roadmap.

Timeline:

  • July 31, 2020: Reopening Plans are submitted to NYSED and will be available to view on www.warsawcsd.org or Facebook @WarsawCSD
  • August 1-7, 2020: Governor Cuomo will announce the decision to open schools
  • August 2020: Details will be finalized and communicated to families. Needs will be determined through district communications and surveys.
  • September 8, 2020: First Day of School (if approved by Governor)
  • September-October, 2020: Programming and Scheduling will be evaluated and monitored
  • November 2, 2020: A decision will be made and announced on the status of any possible schedule changes.

Plan Summary:

Student Schedule:
At the PreK-12 level, the District’s priority is to return students to in-person instruction in the safest manner possible. Because of the required guidelines and facility and staffing limitations, the District will adopt a hybrid model of in-person instruction. Families may opt for remote learning, only. A plan for remote only will be further developed based on community need and district resource capacity.

In-person instruction will be coordinated as follows:
